From the Sickbed to Building Biology: Education as a Stepping Stone
Even while working in the clinic, I enrolled in a training program to become a certified Building Biologist at the IBN (Institut für Baubiologie und Nachhaltigkeit). I absorbed the knowledge like a sponge. Every detail, from material science to measuring electromagnetic smog, fascinated me. I wanted to understand how to design buildings that were not only sustainable but, most importantly, healthy. This education provided the theoretical foundation, but I knew that theory alone wasn’t enough. Nevertheless, the market offered an unbeatable foundation that Germany lacked: quality of life. The unique culture, open society, and breathtaking landscape created an environment where people wanted to live healthy and happy lives. But the topic of healthy living was still unknown here. The focus was on ESG requirements and a bit of greenwashing, rather than putting the health of people at the center.
